This semester we will have Prof. Remco van der Hofstad visiting us at the end of September/beginning October to give the Lecture series on Networks, funded by the NSF RTG grant awarded to the department. Remco is one of the world’s leading researches in developing the mathematical foundations of network models as well as their applications in many disciplines. He is also an amazing and inspiring teacher.  Thanks also to Prof. Olvera-Cravioto who initiated the discussion in getting him here this semester.

Official Visit dates: September 30-Oct 4; Oct 7-8

Course content: The general theme will be stochastic processes on networks.

Pre-visit prep: As part of STOR 892 course, Prof. Hofstad asked if Prof. Shankar Bhamidi could cover some of the basics of Local weak convergence for large discrete random structures so he can hit the ground running. Prof. Shankar Bhamidi plans to do this and potentially record the lectures so others can prepare in advance.

Lecture schedule: The plan is to have 6+ lectures in the afternoons of most of these days. We are currently scheduling rooms and times; in the past this has been 3:30-5:00/4-5:30.

Registration for students: For graduate students, the plan is to setup a 1 credit STOR 8xx course that you can register for

More detailed abstract and schedule to follow over the next few weeks but wanted to send an initial email to save the dates.
